LSZH
LSZH simply translates to Low Smoke Zero Halogen and refers to the behaviour of chemical compounds when combusted - specifically the quantity of smoke generated and the toxicity of the emissions.

Halogens - What are they?
Halogens are a group of five elements comprising; Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine and Astatine.

Halogens - and the effect of combustion
In their basic form, Halogens are very toxic, strong oxidizers and very chemically reactive. In the event of combustion, LSZH and non LSZH cables behave in very different ways, as indicated below.

Note on Mains Voltage (230VAC or 240VAC) Electrical Work on Boats

We remind boat owners that they must engage the services of a licensed electrical contractor for work on any mains voltage (230V or 240V) on their boats. The contractor must ensure wiring meets Australian Standard AS/NZS 3000:2000 and Australian Standard AS: 3014, applicable to all States & Territories of Australia and New Zealand.

Particular attention (but not limited to) should be paid to ensuring the minimum rating of ship to shore power lead is 15 amps.

Regardless of what your or my thoughts on this are, the contractor we hire (and we need to do this by law) has to comply with the standard.

Q:  ‘How can I meet my responsibilities regarding the electrical installation on my boat?'

A:  ‘Complying with the electrical standards and ensuring that the electrical work on boats is performed by a licensed electrician is a way for owners and other persons involved with a boat’s electrical systems to meet their general safety obligations.’

The insurance aspect has a knock on effect, for if the wiring is not to a legal standard and a fire or accident occurs, it would raise the question of ‘am I covered for the resulting damage? And if not, who do I hold responsible?"
